Why do my passionfruit vines taste different, one is sweet and the other is sour
Hi i have 2 passionfruit, panamar gold which is as sweet as, The other - panamar red which is very sour. They are in the same bed but on either side. I have added trace elements, Epsom salts, potasamum sulphate . I dont know if i have given the plant enough. But i have only had 2 purple fruit off the vine, and the yellow vine i get several fruit daily.? How to correct this imbalance? Jan
Dear Jan,
It appears that you are doing all the right things to make your passionfruit vines healthy, it is just a pity one isn't performing as it should. Because passionfruit vines are rapid grower, they need to be feed regularly. This spring try applying a well balanced fertiliser such as Yates Thrive Natural Citrus & Fruit Pelletised Plant Food. It's enriched with Dynamic Lifter and has added nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium to give your fruiting plants the right balance of nutrients for their growing needs. Make sure the vines receive adequate water particularly when they are flowering and setting fruit. Hopefully this year both your vines will give you sweet juicy fruit.
