How do I kill aphids on my strawberry plants?

Now that it is autumn, I have pruned the plants right back, how do I get rid of the insect? the plant, soil and pots are covered in a sticky residue but the plants still looked quite healthy.

Hi Cheryl,

It may well be aphid damage. Thrips and mites are also pests of strawberries. In any case, these insects are sap suckers and need to be controlled before they do a lot of damage. We would suggest spraying on a weekly basis with a product called Yates Nature's Way Vegi & Herb Spray. This product is a low toxic soap based spray that, when sprayed onto the insect, will suffocate and kill them. There is no withholding period with this product. Maintain the health of your strawberries by giving them the nutrients they need at this time of the year. Apply Thrive Soluble Flower & Fruit fertiliser and you will notice an improvement in your strawberries foliage and flowers.
