Potting mix for Magnolia Little Gem

Hi I am planting a magnolia little gem into an extra large pot. I have drilled a couple of extra holes in the bottom of the pot. Would you recommend a small layer of drainage rocks in the bottom of the pot? I am unsure which potting mix to use? Would Yates potting mix with dynamic lifter be suitable? Thanks

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for contacting Yates.

Try planting the little gem with 'Yates Potting Mix with Dynamic Lifter'. A general purpose potting mix with added organic fertiliser and blended from high quality horticultural bark, giving both good moisture retention and air filled porosity essential for strong plant performance.  Suitable for most indoor and outdoor plant types including flowering, fruiting shrubs and vegetables. As for the drainage rock, we don't recommend such practice as it could potentially create a raised water table and hinder the drainage for the pot.

Hope this helps and happy gardening :)
