Is it ok to use an old galvanised iron tub to grow herbs?

I have old galvanized iron and tin tubs and powder coated painted ones as well. Are these safe to grow herbs in? and will they be too hot?

Hi Kristy,

There is no problem in using the metal tubs. The above ground garden tubs that have become so popular as of late are made from material such as galvanised iron. With the herb pots, ensure that there are enough drainage holes in the bottom of the pot. The heat shouldn't worry the herbs. Just make sure they are watered well during the hot summer months. Fertilise them regularly with a soluble fertiliser to keep them growing strongly.
