Growth on Granny Smith Apple Tree

Hi, I am seeing growth on my dwarf Granny Smith tree (main trunk). Please find attached the photograph for your reference. Can please advise what it is and how to fix it. Thanks & Regards Sidd

It looks like you have a severe infestation of scale. We recommend you spray with Yates PestOil. You may need to repeat spray if the infestation is severe. For badly affected areas, you can gently scratch off the scale with an old toothbrush or something similar.

The scale will not immediately drop off once sprayed - they look the same dead or alive. However, once under control, the scale will fall off over the next couple of weeks. You can also use the toothbrush to help with this.
