Has my gardenia dried out from lack of water?
What has happened to my gardenia? It is in a protected spot but hasn't had much water in last few weeks. I'm assuming it has dried out. If I cut it back by a third will that help regenerate? Thank you
Yes, the plant does look water deprived. We don't recommend pruning it just yet, as this may exacerbate water loss. Just give the plant a water and a feed, then when it revives, you can prune it back to improve the aesthetics. General rule is to remove no more than a third of plant material. Yates Thrive Natural Roses & Flowers Organic Based Pelletised Plant Food is an ideal fertiliser for gardenias and most other flowering plants.
