White marks on African violets

The leaves and stems of my African violets have white marks on them resembling chalk. If I do not wipe them off, they become cotton woolly but there is never an insect to be seen. I have been treating them with eucalyptus or tea tree oil which seems to work but have been told this is a little harsh. It does not seem to affect the life of the plant. I have checked out many insect pests but this does not appear.

Sounds like the plant might be affected by Mealybugs. To control, try ‘Yates Nature’s Way Vegie & Herb Spray’. It's certified for use in organic gardens and there's no withholding period. It's available in a ready-to-use or concentrate bottle. Click here for more info on this product: https://www.yates.com.au/product/garden-pest-control/yates-natures-way-vegie-herb-spray-concentrate
