My seedlings are being cut at base and disappearing

My seedlings, in particular petunias, have been either stripped or cut at base of stem or sometimes they have disappeared overnight. I have put a wired basket over one and it still disappeared. I live in Nth Qld. I plant one day and they are often gone the next morning.

Flowers and Ornamentals • Pests

Check if there are any possums or rodents around, as they love having a feast on seedlings overnight.

Also, check around the soil and see if there are any soil-born pests such as cutworm, millipedes or slaters, they could feed on seedlings as well.
