Thanks for contacting Yates. From your description it sounds like you have an issue with Sooty Mould on your gardenia. This is produced when sap sucking insects such as scale or aphids attack the plant. The good news is it is easy to control. Try Yates Nature's Way Citrus & Ornamental Spray.
