Dear Ken,

Roses will grow in coastal areas as long as they are growing in full sun and the soil is free draining and contains plenty of organic matter. You may need to check the pH of the soil. Roses like a pH in the vicinity of 6 - 7. Plant them in a spot where they are not exposed to strong winds and water regularly particularly in the hot months. Applying a mulch of sugar cane mulch or lucerne hay will help to keep the moisture in around the roots of the plants. Roses will be available now in your local nursery as bare-rooted stock. Hope you enjoy growing this beautiful plant.
