Lilies are propagated by division of bulb, stem or scales. The bulbs can be divided in autumn and should be planted as soon as possible after the division because they are subject to drying out quickly. Plant bulbs 8-10cm deep and 20cm apart, and apply a layer of compost or manure to the soil surface as a mulch after planting.
