How do I control suckers coming from the bottom of my red Pierre de Ronsard climbing rose?
I have a healthy Red Pierre de Ronsard climbing rose which is producing a lot of fast growing shoots that look like suckers but are not coming from below the graft. Any advice, please?
Hi Maureen,
sounds like the rose is replacing its laterals as they normally do. pruning of climbing roses, and knowing which laterals to retain can be a bit tricky compared to bush-type roses. best recommendation is to get a copy of the Yates Roses Book which has lots of detailed pruning advice and diagrams that explain the whole process much more easily than we can here.
