How to Grow Linaria

Linaria provide an abundance of dainty flowers in a wide range of colours making for a great floral display. They are very easy to grow and versatile as either a cut flower or as a border plant in the garden.

How to grow linaria in a garden

Step 1

Choose a spot in the garden that receives full sun to part shade and has well-drained soil. Enrich the soil with Yates Dynamic Lifter Soil Improver & Plant Fertiliser.

Step 2

Scatter seeds directly where they are to grow. Rake lightly over the area ensuring not to cover the seeds too deeply.

Step 3

Water gently and keep moist through germination period.

Step 4

Thin out any crowded seedlings when they are approximately 5cm in height, ensuring that the space between each plant at least 10-15cm. Water well.

Step 5

Mulch with an organic mulch, such as bark chips, sugar cane or pea straw.

Step 6

Feed every 1 to 2 weeks with Yates Thrive Natural Roses and Flowers Liquid Plant Food.

How to grow linaria in a pot

Step 1

Choose a pot at least 200mm wide and deep. Position in full sun to part shade.

Step 2

Fill the chosen pots with quality potting mix, such as Yates Potting Mix with Dynamic Lifter.

Step 3

Sow the seeds directly into the pot by pressing them lightly into the mix and water well.

Step 4

Water gently and keep moist through germination period.

Step 5

Feed every 1 to 2 weeks with Yates Thrive Natural Roses and Flowers Liquid Plant Food.

Growing tips

  • Remove spent blooms regularly to encourage further flowering.
  • Great to use as a cut flower and the flowers are small and perfect for kids to pick for posies.
