How can I get rid of a large patch of ivy? I have tried to poison it with glyphosate to no avail. Suggestions?

It's too difficult to pull out as the stems are thick and the roots deep. Is there something else that won't contaminate the soil and is not too damaging to everything else?

Answer: Hi Pauline,

Glyphosate is effective against ivy however a different control technique is required. The best method to use is a paint and scrape method and I have attached a link to a council website describing the method.

Unfortunately ivy is a very tough weed to control and so repeat treatments will be required.
