I need a plant recommendation for pots which get no sun in winter and full sun in summer.

I've currently got hydrangeas planted but something is eating them. However, in summer they struggle on hot days. Looking for a hardy and low maintenance plant that can deal with both environments. The rest of the garden is quite traditional with gardenias, star jasmine and camellias.
