My eggplants are infested with yellow oval shaped critters which have black spikey hairs all over them.

They are mostly on leaves & suck out the moisture until leaves disintegrate. What are they & is there another way to remove other than hand picking?

Answer: These critters are the larva of the 28 spotted potato ladybird. They can be control with pyrethrum or hand removed.
