how can I rid my lawn of puff ball fungus as I have small children and don't want them to ingest them

Answer: Hi Michele,

Thank you for contacting us regarding your mushroom. Puff ball fungus refer to three genera of fungi, Calvatia, Calbovista, and Lycoperdon. Most Puff balls are usually white and round and edible. They seem to prefer disturbed soil, unfortunately we do not offer any chemical control at the moment. If you would like to stop having them popping out of your lawn, remove at early stage to avoid spore dispersion( the puff action).

Hope this helps and happy gardening.

Best Regards,
Louise
