The roots are really think and there is a serious layer of thatch which i am in the process of removing. After that i an going to core the lawn to break up the compacted soil, over seed and fertilise to prepare it for winter. Any help greatly appreciated.

Answer: We are pretty sure that is a couch lawn. Although without a physical inspection we cannot be 100% sure. If you are unsure about the effect a product will have on your lawn try testing it on a small patch in an out of the way place to see what effect it has, then apply to the larger area.
