Robert
My pumpkins (butternut)while looking great, good colour, great size etc, upon cooking, are very dry & not nice

Great size, Good colour, inside & outside, every thing points to a great pumpkin but they are really dry & tasteless & are very disappointed? What have i done wrong?

Answer: Hello Robert,

Unfortunately this is a common occurrence with butternut pumpkin. Causes may include weather, moisture availability, nutrient issues and even poor seed quality (if sourced from a less reputable supplier, or produced at home, for example).

Consider the suitability of your local climate for the variety you are growing. Check your soil pH is in the ideal range for butternut pumpkin (usually 6.0 to 6.5). Feed with a complete fertiliser, such as Yates Dynamic Lifter Organic Plant Food, and consider applying additional potassium through the season with Yates Fruit and Flower Booster Liquid Potash.

All the very best with your future crops.

Kind regards,

Matt
