I have 4yo grapefruit 3.0m high plenty of foliage every year but no fruit. How long before fruit ? Ron Smith

Hi,
I live in Gladstone Queensland, bought the grafted tree about 4 years ago, it is growing strong and gets lots of new foliage each year but to date there has been no flowers or fruit.Do you think the soil is lacking something or does it usually take this long for them to fruit.

Answer: Hi Ron,
I would have expected your grapefruit to have produced some flowers and fruit this season as it is old enough and large enough. There may be various reason as to why there is no flowers or fruit produced. If you have fertilised with only high nitrogen based fertiliser then beautiful foliage will be formed but no fruit. This can be rectified by adding Sulphate of Potash or fertilising with Yates Thrive Flower and Fruit.

Do you have possums in your area? They love to eat the new shoots of citrus trees and can cause large amounts of damage. The flowers will not form. Netting and using possums repellents could help as well.
