Hi, 20yo lemon tree, never sprayed, bearsgood fruit. Lately noticed small black bugs under the leaves. Advice?

Hi, i have a 20 year old lemon tree. we have never sprayed it, it is fertilized yearly for the last 10 years. it bears good fruit. we use slow release fertilizer. Last year, and moreso, this year we have noticed small black bugs under the leaves. smaller than ants. How would i get rid of them? Thanks in advacne for your help

Answer: Hi Siobodanka,
If the insects are quite small and congregated on the new shoots they are probably aphids. These can be controlled with Pest oil or Nature’s Way Insect and Mite spray which are both environmentally friendly products.
Scale insects are sedentary and can be scratched off. Pest oil can be applied to control these pests.
