Answer: It is always best to prune deciduous trees when they are dormant, as when they are actively growing pruning them will cause them significant stress and affect their growth for the rest of the season. Pests and diseases are also more active during this time which increases your risk of an infection. Your trees can go one season without being pruned although it will make the next pruning more difficult.
