black marks on main body of staghorns. what can i do and will it kill the plant

Submitted: 09:12AM, 14 Aug 2010
Answer: Dear John,

The damage is caused by the staghorn fern beetle. They chew small holes into the fleshy fronds, and the brown marks spoil the appearance of the staghorn.

The eggs of this pest are laid at the tips of the fronds so inspect your plant in the early morning and remove them by hand to prevent further damage.
