Answer: Snails and slugs have been known to do this as they can easily get to the young tasty root. You can have a search around your garden about 1 hour after the sun has gone down to confirm this or look for some silvery trails around the plants. They can be easily controlled with an application of Yates Blitzem Snail and Slug Pellets. Alternatively you can hunt them once the sun has gone down and just put them into a bucket of soapy water to dispatch them.
