What causes Rust Coloured Scale?
I have metres and metres of a hedge - Euonymus "Tom Thumb".Some plants are dying. They have a rust coloured scale? the largest is a pin head size down to tiny spots. Leaves go from deep green to light greeen, then yellow and die, along with the stem. Culprit can be scraped off easily with my fingernail. Can you please advise what is it and how to get rid off it? Some plants also have thick white scale. Is there a product to cover both? Thanks Pauline, Sorrento WA
Hi Pauline,
The pest appears to be scale. PestOil can be used to control this pest but you will have to repeat the spray at least 2 to 3 times. It is more effective to control scale in the Spring when they are quite small.
Fertilise the plant with Yates Dynamic Lifter Liquid Concentrate. It's an organically certified fertiliser, which contains seaweed, blood&bone and fish meal to help developing new roots and restoring healthy growth.
