Can I use fresh horse manure as mulch in my garden?
I live close to horse stables. Is the manure suitable to spread as mulch around camelias frangipani natives and roses?
General Advice • Garden Jobs
Fresh horse manure can burn the roots of plants because it is volatile. Added to the compost heap and once spent, it is safe to incorporate into soil or to use as a mulch. (Stable manure containing straw is even more volatile because it contains horse manure as well as urine. Compost thoroughly before use.)
