Do they ripen on the tree. Some are dropping, some are food for birds. NSW S.W Slopes have had vg rain. No fruit last year.

What a beautiful Pear tree, Pati. Pears are best picked whilst they're still hard. You'll know they'll be ready when you lift up the fruit to the side and the stem snaps. Picking time would start about now and last through Autumn. Interestingly, pears ripen from the inside out, so if you leave to fully ripen on the tree, it will be likely they'll go mushy and become bird food. Once picked, store in a cool, dark place - they'll quickly ripen at room temperature. Feed and improve the soil yearly with Yates Dynamic Lifter Soil Improver & Plant Fertiliser – once in spring, summer and autumn.
