Hi, why must curcuma siam shadow be in a sheltered position. Will the curcuma grow with only afternoon sun?

Recently bought the plants from Bunnings and find that the tiny Sunbirds love them so I dont want them to die. We live in Qld at Sarina Beach so the sun is pretty hot. Sorry, I tried to attach a photo but it said the image is too large. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you. Helen

Curcuma are lovely flowering plants. These plants can be grown in full sun and partial shade, in full sun it is best to keep the soil moist. They do prefer morning sun and afternoon shade. To deter the birds, you may try a bird repellent or a moving device such as a pinwheels placed in the area.
