How do I treat crown rot in my bromeliads?

I know that I can't use fungicides containing copper as copper is fatal to bromeliads

Hi Neville,

crown rot in broms is caused by phytophthora. it isnt often a problem unless the mix contains soil from the garden containing the spores and conditions are such that the plants' potting media is too wet and the conditions too cool. there are no registered products for this problem, but fixing the growing conditions and only using clean potting media will help avoid the problem. good ventilation up off the ground and good drainage of benches is imperitive.
