Encouraging Bees and Beneficial Insects

Bees are a vital part of the ecosystem and play a very important role in pollinating many of the fruit and vegies that home gardeners grow. Fruiting plants and vegies that rely on pollination from bees include stone fruit, apples, melons, citrus, berries, pumpkins, zucchini and cucumbers.

Beneficial insects such as ladybirds, parasitic wasps and flies, assassin and other predatory bugs, lacewings and mantids all help to reduce numbers of insect pests that attack plants, such as aphids and caterpillars.
