Sweet yet piquant flavour. Quite distinct from normal lettuce with thicker, crisper leaves. Upright and cylindrical, forming tall, loose heads. Essential ingredient for Ceasar Salads.
Sow direct where it is to grow or raise in trays of Yates Seed Raising Mix. Transplant when 3-4cm high.
Plant in a well-drained, sunny position adding Yates Garden Lime and Yates Blood & Bone to the soil before planting. Water regularly and apply Yates Thrive Soluble Plant Food weekly. Make successive sowings every few weeks. Water at base of plant, rather than overhead, to minimise risk of disease. Protect from snails and slugs with Yates Blitzem.
Great companion plant for beans, beets, carrots, cucumbers, onion, peas, radish and strawberries. Can be picked leaf by leaf or harvested whole.
Store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
