Curl Grubs (the larvae of beetles like the African Black Beetle) are one of the most common lawn insect pests. They eat grass roots just below the surface, turning the lawn yellow, then brown, before it dies, in affected areas the grass can easily be flicked out. To check if you have Curl Grub, lay a wet towel on your lawn overnight. The grubs will be attracted to the moisture, so in the morning will be attached to the towel. Use Yates Grub Kill & Protect for Lawns in September/October as a preventative measure against a range of common lawn pests, to stop them from taking hold. It offers six months of protection against grubs and is suitable for all lawn types. If you’re using it late in the season (from mid-December onwards) when mature grubs are present, use the higher concentration listed on the label so it’s effective.
Curl grubs are the larvae of African Black Beetles, but if you notice the adult beetles, use Yates Baythroid Advanced Insect Killer for Lawns to control these. This highly concentrated solution controls African Black Beetle and Lawn Armyworm, as well as a range of other insects including Mole Crickets and Grasshoppers. It is highly concentrated, fast acting, and suitable for large areas. Apply from late winter to late spring to control the adult African Black Beetle before it has a chance to lay eggs, and in late summer and autumn to control Lawn Armyworm.
