What is Iron Deficiency

Iron deficiency is a plant disorder which can sometimes be confused with manganese deficiency. Iron is needed to produce chlorophyll in plants, hence its deficiency causes discolouration of leaves.

Symptoms

Leaves turning yellow or brown in the margins between the veins which may remain green, while young leaves may appear to be bleached.

How to Protect your plants

Iron deficiency can be caused by a lack of nutrients in your soil caused by excessive watering or long periods of rain fall. Most commonly it is caused by high soil pH causing iron to become unavailable to the plant. Test soil pH if the problem is persistent and apply sulphur to lower the soil pH.
