Why are the flowers on my Paw Paw tree falling off before fruiting?

My paw paw tree has flowered for the first time. All it's flowers have fallen off before fruiting. Why?

Hi Vincent,

Most often paw paw or papayas produce male and female flowers on separate plants: female flowers are large on short stalks and male are smaller in heavy clusters on long stalks. They can also be produced on the same plant and must be pollinated either by wind or bees. They prefer warm tropical conditions and this year the cooler weather may have affected the plants and flowering. Fertilise each Spring and Autumn with Dynamic Lifter. Ensure the ground is well drained as they can be susceptible to root rot.
