Can you use Banana Trees as mulch?

I've cut down a couple of banana trees after they fruited. I'm making raised garden beds for vege growing, & wondering whether I can mix the banana trees in with other stuff in the bottom of the bed, under other compost-y stuff . . .?

Banana trees should be composted well before being added to a garden bed. If you plan to add them to the bottom of your vegie bed with other "composty" stuff it may take them a long time to break down, that is, unless you chop them up into very small pieces. Bear in mind, composted material should be turned regularly and exposed to air otherwise it can become anaerobic.
