Sprouts galore thanks to the new Greenhouse!

ben and leons vegie patch is talking about growing Beans, Tomato, Zucchini, Capsicum from Melbourne

Just starting off...

Hi Guys!

Just a little bit about me… I’ve always had an interest in gardening but recently in the last 3-4 years it’s grown from a hobby to more of an obsession!

I buy plants on impulse and just as quickly get over them which means I have a “plant ghetto” where plants for one reason or another end up going through 1-2 months of neglect before I finally decide where they go in the ground!

It has taken me a while but I have learnt that “more” is not always better, especially when it comes to pesticide & fertiliser use, plus it took me a while to get over the mentality that “if a little does the job then surely more must be better right?” so I often found myself killing my plants from kindness then neglect!

My second home is Bunnings and Gardenworld in Springvale where I spend way too much time and my cold hard cash, but if it makes me happy why not I say? And to top it all off I decided that this year I would go one step further and buy a greenhouse so I could get a head start on growing vegies since Melbourne weather can be so unpredictable! One moment the sun is out and I’m breaking a sweat and the next moment an artic blast has blown over and I’m in my bathrobe with my nanna slippers on worrying about my babies that I planted out way too early yet again! Anyways enough rambling from me, so far the investment has paid off as the following photos will show!

In this post the following seeds have germinated (hurray!):

  • bush and pole beans
  • butternut pumpkin
  • cucumber
  • chilli & capsicums
  • parsley, basil, coriander and dill herbs
  • tomatoes
  • zucchini
  • watermelon and rockmelons (I have yet to have any success with these so wish me luck!)
