Velvety, claw-shaped blooms on strong stems emerge from sculptured, upright clumps of glossy green, strappy leaves. The red, green, black and yellow blooms attract birds to the garden and make striking cut flowers.
Sow in trays of Yates Seed Raising Mix. Keep moist but not wet. Transplant when 10cm high. Seed germination can be slow and variable.
Choose an open, sunny position with well drained, preferably sandy, soil. Add Yates Blood & Bone before planting and fertilise occasionally with Garden Gold For Natives. Protect from snails and slugs with Yates Blitzem.
Water at base of the plant to avoid risk of disease. Cut back foliage hard after flushes of flowers to encourage new growth. Protect plants from heavy frosts.
Store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
