Vespula germanica

What are European Wasps

Wasps can be serious pests. They defend their nest aggressively, swarming out to attack if disturbed. Their sting is painful and multiple stings, or a sting to the throat can be dangerous.

European wasps are considered an environmental pest. In large numbers, they are a threat to native insects and spiders. In some cases however, they may have some beneficial value as a predator of other insect pests.

Wasps usually feed on sweet substances such as secretions from insects and fermenting fruit.
