Snails and slugs can often hide in amongst the leaf bases and bulbs of cymbidium orchids. They can leave silvery trails, which can dry to appear like gold dust and chew holes in leaves and also flowers and flower spikes.
New growth can appear distorted, leaves can be covered with a sticky substance (called honeydew) and white or grey cottony looking mealybugs can cluster on stems, leaves and around leaf bases.
