When should I prune a climbing rose?

I have heard that climbing roses should be pruned after the first flush of blooms in summer - is this correct? Or should I prune now?

Answer: Pruning wise, climbing roses require slightly different treatment.
Some gardeners give them a light pruning in winter and their main pruning after flowering in spring, removing old canes and dead wood and shortening the canes which remain.
