What and When should I pot up that will be looking good in Melbourne for March 22? Our School Open Day!

We are holding our Open Day on March 22 and I'm looking for plants that will look good to sell. This is the first time, but not the last I will by tryig to sell plants at this time of the year, and realise I may have 'missed the boat' with planting but am interested in your thoughts for this year and in future years what to plant and when into pots that will look good for the third weekend in March?

Answer: Hi Jennie, with flowering annuals grown from seed, the best way to plan ahead is to have a look at varieties you like. All packs tell you how long in weeks it is from sowing to flowering so you count back and make sure that the calendar month you need to sow is suitable. For example from now until mid march is about 14 weeks.

Good things for pots are: coleus – ready in 10 weeks so sow early january. Both petunias and dwarf marigolds flower in 12 weeks, so sow in the next fortnight to have them ready in mid march.
