Hi, I've had problems with borers getting into the tips of my protea over the last couple of years and now I notice they seem to be getting into the tips of my Angel Peach and dwarf nectarine & peach trees as well - sticky sappy deposits on tips of most

I dissected a Protea tip and it contained a small (5mm) brown grub about 10mm inside the stem. I have photos if that will help identify the problem.

Answer: Hi there Bob,
It sounds like your protea may have a pest called the stem tip borer. We don’t have anything in our range that is registered to get rid of borer, the only way you can really get rid of it is by tip pruning the plants that are effected.
