The nuts have holes in them

Submitted: 01:47PM, 16 Dec 2011
Answer: Hi Maree,

Macadamia nuts can be attacked by a few different pests. The macadamia flower caterpillar eats the buds and flowers and can reduce fruit set. Sometimes the larvae can attack young nuts as well. The macadamia nutborer is the larva of a reddish-brown moth and it tunnels into the macadamia nuts. The damaged nuts may fall. Fruit spotting bugs can feed any time during nut development and can cause the kernel to become mis-shapen and translucent. Lebaycid will control fruit spotting bug. Yates Success will control a range of caterpillars and may be effective on the macadamia flower caterpillar.
