White scale on lillypilly - have sprayed with Confidor and White oil - still there after couple of treatments

Answer: Scale can be a difficult problem to control. White oil controls scale by covering the insects breathing pores and suffocating it. This means that all the scale present need to be covered with the product to control them. If the scale has developed its waxy coating then it may have died and left it’s waxy coat behind. There may also be eggs under the waxy coating waiting to hatch. You may need to physically remove the left over coatings.
If the population is still increasing after you have treated the scale you might need to use Yates Scale Gun. This product is a combination of petroleum oil and insecticides. This should control scale at all stages of its lifecycle.
