Noel
I have a beetle attacking my cycads. How can I control this pest?

The beetle is 5mm - 6mm in length and black in colour. It eats the new leaves in early summer.

Answer: Dear Noel,

This beetle, as you have already found out, attacks the new flush of growth on the cycad. Yates do not have a registered insecticide to control this beetle. The best way to prevent damage to your cycad, would be to cover them with a net or shade cloth during the summer months when new growth if likely to appear. Hand removal is also an option when first seen.
