Codling moth prevention

Submitted: 12:46PM, 15 Nov 2014
Answer: Hi David,

Yates has an excellent product that will control codling moth. This product is called Success Ultra.

The active ingredient of spnetoram has an unique mode of action which affects the insect’s nervous system. Distruption of the nervous system results in the insect stopping feeding, with insect death occurring within 3 day. Spinetoram works via both contact and ingestion.

Spraying should commence in early spring during early fruit set. Codling moth eggs hatch once temperatures are over 15 degrees C. Spray the entire tree every 7 – 14 days as there can be several generations of codling moth each year.

Any fruit that has already been attacked should be picked up and destroyed to help break the codling moth lifecycle.
