Medium_img_5249a Lilly pilly cherry surprise, 3 weeks old, white dust/ sticky cobweb like stuff is on the branches.

This is a new plant, it is in a pot, have noticed this white dust, sticky cobweb like substance on the plant, also a very small yellow like insect. Cant identify if this is a pest or is affecting the plant.

Answer: Hi Emily,
The lillypilly has mealy bug and this can be controlled with Pest oil or Confidor. As the problem is quite bad you will need a follow up spray 7-10 days later. Fertilise the plant well to help with its recovery. Garden Gold for natives or Thrive All Purpose would be suitable.
