If i use a 'mulching mower,' am I returning nutrients to the soil, or choking the lawn up with excess thatch?

I regularly use a push cylinder mower, (no catcher) on my kykuya lawn. Am I choking the lawn, or returning nutrients? Cheers

Answer: Hi Joel,

Thank you for contacting Yates regarding lawn mowing, mulching grass clippings is a good way to return nutrients back to your lawn, however, too much clippings can prevent water penetration and photosynthesis. I would suggest mulching once a month and rank excessive clippings off the lawn particularly during the active growing months. You may also try Yates Dynamic Lifter Concentrated Lawn Food, which is chicken manure based fertiliser. You can see a picture of the product using the below link.

Hope this helps and happy gardening.
