Answer: Hi Abbey,

I would think 4 tomato plants would be sufficient for just 2 people. One seed is one plant, so that little packet of seed will last you a number of years.

It is a tad early to be raising tomato seeds at the moment. Wait until August before sowing the seed. You can do this by purchasing some seed raising mix and sowing the seeds into a tray. You can sow more than 4 seeds if you prefer just in case they don’t all germinate. If they do all germinate then you have a couple of plants to give to your friends. Place the tray in a warm protected spot under cover and keep moist until the seed germinates When the seedlings are about 5cm high and are hardened off, you can then transplant them into your garden. You will need to have some wooden stakes ready so you can stake your plants as they grow.

Yates have a number of varieties of tomatoes in our range. Summerstar, Improved Appolo and the Heirloom favourites are top varieties. If you were wanting to grow smaller tomatoes, Small Fry and Tiny Tim would be an excellent choice.
