Answer: Hi Wendy,
In warmer climates chilli plants will survive the winter and not die out as occurs in the southern areas of Australia. You could prune the bush lightly during the cooler winter months and once the weather warms up the bush will re-shoot and flower. Chilli plants do like a soil with calcium so apply limestone or dolomite. Applying lime will also increase the pH of the soil which can increase the availability of nutrients to the chilli plants.
